And then I was able to peel out quite some lint. Buselding Couldn't tell with light but used a needle and pulled out a big piece of lint and now mic works just fine. Never even thought about that. Just bought some new headphones.

It still baffles me to this very day when I found that hugechunk of lint in the headphone jack! This is what the internet is supposed to be. Just tried what you suggested and sure enough.
The link is mobile.macrumors.com. Tried removing and re-inserting the sim card but that didn't resolve the problem, then I charged the phone and that didn't help either. nothing, i read this online and it worked. Blamecanada I couldn't sync my iPhone 4s when it first came out, it sucked, I had a $300 paperweight but then I saw this and sure enough the reason why it just fixed it. I took it out and it works perfectly!
